Sergio Aguero’s father claims both Arsenal and Chelsea were interested in transferring his son ‘until the last minute’ for free.
The 33-year-old striker was revealed as the first of three signings made by Barcelona this week, with the Argentine signing a two-year deal at the Camp Nou once his contract with Manchester City expires at the end of this month.
The striker leaves the Etihad Stadium as City’s all-time top goalscorer with 260 goals and a five-time Premier League winner.

And in conversation with Radio La RedArgentina international Leonel El Castillo’s father insisted there was interest from clubs in keeping him in England but added that his son is now ‘lucky’ to have bonded with good friend Lionel Messi with the Catalan giants.
“My son waited until the last minute to renew at City, but it didn’t happen,” he said.
He didn’t know what was going to happen to his future. Several clubs were interested in signing him.
“Arsenal were interested in him and Chelsea right up to the last minute. If he didn’t stay in England, it would be Italy or Spain.

He is now happy after signing for Barcelona. I see him happy. He’s been friends with Lionel Messi since they were 15 and they’ve always talked.
“It looks like Messi will stay at Barcelona, so they will play together.”
Aguero had an emotional goodbye in his last game at the Etihad, with the attacker scoring twice in a 5-0 win against Everton on the final day of the season.
City boss Pep Guardiola then burst into tears in a post-match interview with Sky, after City won their third Premier League trophy in four years. He described Aguero as a “special person” and insisted that City “cannot replace him”.
But Leonel, who is also his son’s agent, lashes out at the Catalan boss, accusing him of shedding false tears in the interview.
However, Agüero’s father (left) said his son is now happy to have signed for Barcelona

When asked if Guardiola’s tears had moved him, Leonel replied: ‘No, I don’t believe him. He was never sincere to my son. I don’t think he ever wanted him.
“He wants to be the protagonist in his clubs rather than the player. From one day to the next he changes the players, he changes the midfield, you never know if you are the most important player or not.
“As Sergio said, it always depends on the club and the manager of the moment and that happens everywhere.
But Leonel claimed the Catalan boss only sheds crocodile tears on his son
“They say your time is up at the club and the only option left is to leave.”
Leonel is not the first member of the Aguero family to speak out against Guardiola. The striker’s brother Mauricio took to Twitter shortly after City lost the Champions League final to Chelsea last month: “Guardiola has never wanted my brother since he arrived at City. ‘
He then deleted the post saying there were “too many toxic people, too many,” but when told the post had been seen by Twitter users, he said, “Perfect, I’m glad people saw it. And I’ll write it again if I want to.’
Aguero’s father also confirmed that his son – part of Argentina’s Copa America squad this summer – does not have coronavirus despite an initial positive result from a rapid test. A subsequent PCR test revealed that Agüero was indeed negative for the disease.
Barcelona have also confirmed the signing of Eric Garcia, who will also leave City for free
Leonel also confirmed that Agüero did not receive a Covid-19 shot while in England.
Barcelona also unveiled Eric Garcia and Emerson Royal this week to bolster their backline following confirmation of Aguero’s next move.
Spain international Garcia also joins after canceling his deal with City, while Barcelona activated a £7.8million buy option in Emerson’s Real Betis contract on Wednesday.
The Catalan side is now looking for reinforcements in other areas, with the club looking to sign Georginio Wijnaldum and Memphis Depay in the coming weeks.
