Sarah Snook took advantage of a break in production on Monday to venture out to London with her husband Dave Lawson and their young daughter.

The actress, best known for her starring role as Shiv Roy in the HBO drama Succession, was making her first public appearance with the nine-month-old, her only child with Australian comedian Lawson.

Snook, 36, dressed in a gray sweater and sweatpants while with her family in the English capital, where she is currently appearing on the set of Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray.

The Australian star was taking a well-deserved break after bringing Wilde’s celebrated novel to the stage with an ambitious play about women, in which she plays all 26 characters.

It follows a blockbuster awards season for Snook, whose role in Succession saw her triumph at the Critics Choice, Golden Globes and Emmy Awards.

However, in an interview with The Sunday Times, Snook revealed that her path to stardom and landing the role of Shiv Roy was anything but glamorous.

She described herself as “hugely depressed” as a teenager growing up in Sydney and forced to go to drama school because her parents were bankrupt.

Snook attended Sydney’s prestigious National Institute of Dramatic Arts and recalled how people made fun of her falling asleep in lectures because she had no energy due to not being able to afford nutritious meals.

He told how he lived on white rice and explained: “I earned 120 dollars a week, the rent was 90 dollars and 12 dollars I spent on my phone. “It was certainly something that built character.”

“No wonder I fell asleep to the story of drama lessons,” she recalls. “I always fell asleep in the back row.

‘My blood sugar was rising and I wasn’t eating protein, I couldn’t afford it. People made bets on whether I would fall asleep.

Snook detailed that he felt “lost” after graduating in 2008 and began working at a cafe to make ends meet. The actress said that she had the last 10 Australian dollars left before she started working as an actress.

She landed several small roles in award-winning Australian films and slowly worked her way up to becoming an established actress in 2015.

Snook played Apple businesswoman Andrea Cunningham in the Hollywood biopic and made her West End debut alongside Ralph Fiennes.

When offered the role of Shiv, the actress admitted that she didn’t understand the appeal of a family of brats who were only interested in increasing their bank balance.

She said her friends questioned the character and she assured them, “That was my reaction too!”
