Just under a year and a half after it released its first pair of true wireless earbuds, Sennheiser is back with a sequel: the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2. The major improvements to the true wireless earbuds are that they support noise cancellation and have a much better lifetime. battery. There are also some smaller improvements, such as the fact that these earplugs are 2 mm smaller than their predecessors.
The improvements in battery life are, at least on paper, quite impressive. You now get up to seven hours of playback from the earbuds themselves (four hours last) and using the case gives you a total of 28 hours (from 12). Sennheiser also claims the battery drain problems some users reported this with the first generation of earplugs. It says it will switch to a new Bluetooth chip that “counteracts any power outages.”
Rounding out the specifications, the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 comes with support for the Bluetooth 5.1, AAC and AptX standards, an IPX4 waterproof rating, and has an audio pass-through mode in addition to their noise canceling mode. You can only listen to one earbud at a time, but the functionality unfortunately only works with the right earbud. They will retail for $ 299.99 (£ 279.99 / € 299.99), the same as their predecessors.
We were impressed with the first-generation Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless when we reviewed them in 2018, noting then that they were the best sounding true wireless earbuds we had ever heard. Functionally, however, they left a little to be desired, with flaky wireless connectivity and controls that were a bit unintuitive at first. And those battery drain issues have never been fully addressed. We will consider whether their successors have been able to overcome these issues in our full review, which will take place soon.
The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 is available from April in the US and Europe in black, later a white variant will follow.
