Democratic Senator Adam Schiff has rejected Donald Trump’s invitation to visit the devastation caused by the Los Angeles wildfires.
The president leaves Washington on his first trip of his second administration Friday to tour disaster zones in North Carolina and California.
He invited Schiff, a Longtme enemy he mentioned on his first day back in the White House.
But a spokesperson for Calfirornia’s newly elected senator said he was “unable” to attend due to “scheduled nominating votes.”
He will first go to Asheville, which was devastated by tornadoes in September, and where he condemned President Joe Biden’s response to the disaster.
More controversy awaits when he rounds areas of Los Angeles mentioned by wild fires.
He has Gov. Gavin Newsom often abused him, calling him “newspaper scum” and claiming he will withhold federal aid unless the state turns on a valve that he claims will allow water to flow from northern parts of the state.
Experts say there is no such valve and that California has been working for years to try to get more water to dry parts of the state.

“I don’t think we should give California anything until they drop the water,” Trump said in an interview with Fox News Channel’s Sean Hannity on Wednesday.
The president also proposed shifting more responsibility to individual states for managing disasters.
“I’d rather see the states take care of their own problems,” he told Hannity, adding that “FEMA gets in the way of everything.”
He has to fly to Las Vegas in the evening to stay in one of his own hotels before heading to Miami for the rest of the weekend.
In Nevada, advisers said he will outline how he will fulfill a campaign promise to remove taxes from tips as he celebrates his victory in the state on Election Day.
