Selena Gomez has revealed the reason why she left Instagram for four years.
The singer, 31, said it was the “best gift” to hand over the reins of her social media profile to her team.
Selena, who is the most followed woman with a staggering 428 million on Instagram, opened up about the reason she stepped away from the photo-sharing platform at the 2024 TIME 100 Summit.
‘I took four years off of Instagram and let my team post for me. I felt it was the most rewarding gift he had ever given me. I was more present. “I was happier,” Selena said.
The Ring creator said that instead of spending hours browsing Instagram she would call her friends.

Elsewhere in the interview, Selena said she feels “sad” about her generation’s beauty standards.
The actress believes that there are “very unrealistic” ideals in the world of beauty and denounces the use of airbrushing techniques and filters.
She said: “Personally, I felt there is a very unrealistic standard when it comes to the world of cosmetics and it makes me a little sad for my generation.”
“And for anyone to look at something that’s probably been touched up and made to look good is… I just wanted to break that down.”
The Only Murders in the Building star is the founder of Rare Beauty, but admitted she has no idea how to do her makeup.

She said: ‘I don’t know how to do makeup and I have a makeup line. I wanted them to feel good when they used my products.
‘And all of our products have names based on uplifting things, from our Find Comfort line to whatever comes to mind, body and soul, we try to be very conscious of even naming the products so that they are reminders of joy or simply finding yourself. ‘
Selena, who rose to fame as a teenager on the Disney Channel, admitted that her only goal was to do makeup that was “fun” for her fans.
She had “spent years” aspiring to look a certain way, which she said was ultimately just a “waste of time.”
“So I really wanted to do makeup that was fun for people. I don’t believe in having to look a certain way. I spent years trying to do that and it’s exhausting. Waste of time.’
