Selena Gomez and David Henrie enjoyed a sweet reunion in the first look at Disney’s highly-anticipated Wizards of Waverly Place sequel, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place.
The trailer for the reboot was released on Friday and offered a behind-the-scenes look at the show, which arrives 12 years after the original series ended.
The clip features original cast members Selena, 32 (who plays Alex Russo) and David, 35 (who plays Justin Russo). Jerry Russo, played by David DeLuise, also made a return appearance.
“This is where it all started,” Gomez shared in the teaser, as she returned to set, adding, “We’re home.”
Gomez is an executive producer on the reboot and her on-screen role is limited to the first episode.

The trailer for the reboot dropped on Friday and offered a behind-the-scenes look at the show; Gomez was seen with Henrie and new lead Janice LeAnn Brown.
The sequel series will focus on David, who has opted for a normal life with his family: his wife Giada (Mimi Gianopulos) and his children Roman (Alkaio Thiele) and Milo (Max Matenko) and Janice LeAnn Brown (Billie).
“When Justin’s sister Alex (Gomez) brings Billie home for help, Justin realizes he must brush up on his magical skills to mentor the wizard-in-training while also juggling his daily responsibilities and safeguarding the future of the wizarding world,” the show’s synopsis reads.
The first look begins with Selena and David arriving on set for the first time.
She is seen happily hugging her co-star as she announces that they are “home.”
David then gives fans a tour of the Russo’s new residence and talks about how things have “changed” and “the Russos have grown.”
While in the family kitchen, she introduces Brown, who is the show’s new protagonist.
“Billie is rebellious and stubborn, sarcastic,” Selena is seen telling David in a pilot clip.
“Sounds like someone else I know,” he jokes, to which Selena grimaces: “Haha, like me, I get it.”

After the audience applauded, he continued: “We wanted to recapture that magic and share it with a new generation.”
The new series promises to offer the same magic as its predecessor.
The clip shows characters escaping sparks from their wands, accidentally electrocuting food and turning half-invisible.
The video concludes with Gomez’s iconic track, “Everything Is Not What It Seems,” setting the tone for an exciting montage of what’s to come.
At one point, Selena exclaims, “We’re back!” while Brown adds, “In style!”
The trailer ends with Selena twirling her wand, as David declares, “I still got it.”
Selena describes Brown, the show’s new lead, as “rebellious, stubborn and sarcastic.”
“Sounds like someone else I know,” David jokes, to which Selena grimaces: “Haha, like me, I get it.”

In May, Selena revealed the official title of the Wizards of Waverly Place spin-off series.
At the ABC and Disney Upfronts event in New York City, the actress said she was “very excited” to announce the title of the new show: Wizards Beyond Waverly Place.
“Sometimes something magical happens when you make it home,” he said.
After taking the stage and revealing the title, Disney shared the first images from the new show, which was previously announced earlier this year in January, on Instagram.
In the photos, Gomez and her former co-star David are seen reprising their roles as the sibling duo.
In January, Disney Branded Television issued a pilot order for the new series.
It was revealed that the Love On singer will only appear on the show as a guest star, but will act as an executive producer.
In Disney’s post, Gomez and Henrie were also seen posing in a group photo with the new leads and the rest of the cast.

Picking up 12 years after the original series ended, Gomez, Jake T. Austin, Deluise, Henrie and Maria Canals Barrera are seen in a still image.
The original Wizards of Waverly Place series followed the Russo family, who secretly possessed magical abilities. It centered on three brothers, Alex, Justin, and Max (Jake T. Austin), as they navigated their teenage years.
Gomez and Henrie also starred in the 2009 spin-off film Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie.
In 2012, Gomez reprised her role in a television special titled The Wizards Return: Alex vs. Alex, which did not include Henrie due to scheduling conflicts with another film.
Wizards Beyond Waverly Place will premiere on Disney Channel and Disney+ later this year.
