Selena Gomez denies her new song Single Soon is about her ex The Weeknd: ‘Couldn’t be falser’
Selena Gomez hits back at rumors that her new song Single Soon is about her relationship with The Weeknd.
Gomez, 31, dropped the single last week, with the accompanying music video showing the singer in a gorgeous pink mini dress.
Rumors surfaced shortly after the song’s debut that the song was actually about The Weeknd, who she dated in 2017 and even moved in with them briefly during a nine-month relationship.
The issue also comes just months after DailyMail.com exclusively reported that Gomez found The Weeknd’s show The Idol “creepy” because its protagonist Jocelyn (Lily-Rose Depp) had so many similarities to her own real-life journey.
As for the rumored meaning of her new song, she commented on an Instagram post from the website Hollywood Life and revealed that this is not true.

“Couldn’t be more false,” Gomez said in response to the Hollywood Life Instagram post.
Just two days earlier, the singer took to Instagram to share the real meaning of her new song.
“Thanks guys for all the love on Single Soon!!!” she began in her Instagram post to her 428 million followers.
“It’s a playful anthem about being comfortable in your own skin and loving your own company,” she said.
The singer/actress also added a pink heart emoji before adding, “And it’s great fun to dance to too!”
Earlier in August, she teased her new song Single Soon, adding that her upcoming album isn’t quite finished yet.
‘You’ve been asking for new music for a while now. Since I’m not quite done with SG3 yet, I wanted to release a nice song that I wrote a while ago that is perfect for the end of summer. FAST SOON. August 25. Save it now,” Gomez said in an Instagram post.
Her legions of fans – 428 million on Instagram alone – have been elated by her musical comeback.

With Single Soon, this is her first solo track release in three years.
Many of her fans praised the song, saying it was “heartwarming” to see her so “carefree, happy and confident” after a slew of personal struggles in the past.
The track was produced by Benny Blanco and Cashmere Cat, and the accompanying music video was directed by Philip Andelman.
Single Soon is the lead single from her upcoming album and her first musical release since her Spanish-language EP Revelacion – which was released in March 2021.
