Fans in London were treated to the most improbable ending you’ve ever seen.
With the Mets leading 6-5 in the bottom of the ninth, having scored three in the top half of the inning to take the lead, the Phillies had the bases loaded and one out, looking ready to give the Mets another defeat. .
But on an 0-2 pitch Drew Smith, Nick Castellanos hit a dribbler with a broken bat in front of the plate, and Luis Torrens made the magic happen. Torrens jumped out of his fielding position, spun and retreated to touch the plate, and then fired a precise throw to first to double Castellanos and give the Mets the victory.
