A “hurricane-proof” mansion built by a former insurance executive is on the market for nearly $6 million.
The French Tudor-style home in Wellington, Florida, survived recent hurricanes Helene and Milton thanks to its renovations, which cut the homeowner’s insurance premium in half, according to global mansion.
Kishan Khanna and his wife, Diane, bought the 5,677-square-foot home in 2018 for $1.3 million.
They have since upgraded the home to be “hurricane proof” and are now selling their newly upgraded home for $5.89 million.

Khanna installed hurricane-proof windows and doors, expanded and triple-insulated the garage, added a generator and leak detector, a water filtration system and renovated the roof.

Khanna told Mansion Global: ‘It’s a very strong door and very beautiful. It makes the entryway look really grand. The underlying (idea) was to make it safe and secure, but also make it look better.’
Before the state of Florida was hit by recent destructive storms, the Khannas originally set out to reduce their insurance premium, which they succeeded in doing.
‘We were able to cut the premium in half. “I’m congratulating myself for doing that,” Khanna said.

Wellington did not experience the full force of Hurricane Milton, but a tornado generated by the storm tore through the city causing chaos for residents.

Although Wellington was not in the direct path of Hurricane Milton, the house suffered minimal damage from one of the dozens of tornadoes created by Milton throughout Florida.
However, houses with smashed roofs, destroyed cars and vandalized houses were seen in Wellington.
A Florida resident, Sam Rider, said The Palm Beach Post how his son clung to his arm as Rider was lifted into the air, as the storm hit their home.
Rider told the outlet: ‘It’s been very emotional. We survived. “We had no defense.”

Khanna, who has played polo since he was a child at an Indian boarding school, says his favorite feature, however, is the 200-acre polo fields right in his backyard.
The private grounds offer bridleways right outside the door and a front row seat to the world famous polo championships which take place in Wellington each year and attract celebrities such as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and many other big names.
