At 61, Hollywood legend Demi Moore appears to be “aging backwards,” and a leading UK cosmetic doctor thinks he knows why.
Moore, who starred in the smash hit Ghost in 1990 and Charlie’s Angles in 2003, is now the face of a youth-obsessed character in the new sci-fi hit, The Substance.
The film explores themes about social pressures for women to follow unrealistic beauty standards, something she herself is no stranger to.
However, the star still looks as good as she did in her 30s and London-based cosmetic doctor Dr Johnny Betteridge suggests a face and neck lift, as well as eyelid surgery, is one of the reasons.
In a video, posted to Instagram, which has racked up more than 11,000 likes, JB Aesthetics founder Dr Betteridge compares images of Moore from 2019 to September of this year to illustrate her transformation.
Looking at an image from 2019, he said there were “some characteristic signs of aging on the face and neck, with skin laxity and loss of volume being the predominant features.”
But after comparing it to an image of her in September at the premiere of The Substance, she explains that her face now appears more “lifted.”
‘Notice how his face has changed from how we saw it a few years ago to now, a much more lifted and taut appearance. “These characteristics are probably attributed to a deep flat face and neck stretching,” he said.

A video from September shows apparent evidence of the surgical procedure, as the star can be seen with her hair tied behind her ear, revealing a surgical scar usually seen after a facelift.
“If you look closely you can see the surgical scar that has been discreetly placed in front of the ear,” Dr. Betteridge said.
In the video, he also attributes his youthful appearance and lack of wrinkles around his eyes to blepharoplasty, a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and fat from the upper or lower eyelids.
‘Their eye area has a much softer contour and their eyelids are also more visible. “We can probably attribute these changes to an upper and lower blepharoplasty,” he said.
Dr Betteridge added: “This highlights how really good plastic surgery can be so effective in not changing a person’s appearance, but simply refreshing them overall.”
The actress is rumored to have undergone £250,000 worth of surgery, including breast implants and nose straightening, according to widespread reports that circulated in the early 2000s.
But he dismissed the reports as nothing more than speculation, insisting in 2007 that he had “never” had any cosmetic surgery.
However, Dr. Betteridge is not the only surgeon who has suggested that Moore undergo surgery.

Dr. Betteridge said that in 2019 he could see signs of aging on the face and neck, such as skin laxity and loss of volume (Demi pictured at the 2019 Met Gala).
Demi, photographed in January 2021 in Paris, has long been known for maintaining an incredibly youthful appearance, having been in the spotlight since the early ’90s. This image sparked speculation about her changing appearance.
Demi, pictured at the 2024 Academy Museum Gala, is suggested to have undergone a facelift and eyelid surgery.
Channel 4’s 10-year-younger plastic surgeon Dr Mark Solomos said Hello! magazine that he believes she started the surgery young and maintained her youthful appearance with minor interventions.
Praising her “incredible bone structure,” he suggests she may have undergone a lip lift, a youth-enhancing procedure that reduces the distance between the base of the nose and the upper lip.
This also eliminates some of the wrinkles between the nose and upper lip that appear as the face ages.
He also said it was possible she had undergone a face and neck lift or laser resurfacing surgery, a popular anti-aging treatment that works by destroying the first layer of skin, allowing fresh, young skin cells to grow underneath.
Your youthful appearance could also be due to anti-wrinkle injections like Botox around your eyes, Dr. Solomos said, which relaxes facial muscles to smooth out lines and wrinkles.
He also suggested that she may also have had an eyelid lift, a cosmetic procedure that removes excess skin, fat and muscle from the eyelids to change the shape and eliminate drooping.
However, Dr. Solomos added that Moore may have “exaggerated” her cheeks. He said they look “a little too big” for their proportions, whether with fillers or fat transfer to give them a plumper look.
