While many Republicans are calling for Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle to be fired, party leader Tom Emmer believes she should stay and take a turn in the hot seat.
“Don’t resign,” he told DailyMail.com at the Republican National Convention in comments directed at Cheatle.
“I think you should be in the hot seat. You should answer all the questions before you get fired. I think you need to be there.”
The Republican leader rattled off a list of questions he had for Cheatle, including “the big one: How in God’s name did he know to go into that building in the first place? What did he tell him that that building was not going to be secure and that he was going to be able to get in?”
Cheatle made an appearance at the Republican National Convention and was confronted by Republican senators.

Emmer highlighted the exchange between Trump’s team, which says it had requested additional security and was denied, and the Secret Service, which says it had offered additional security.
“I want to know what the truth is, because if this administration did not provide the additional resources that were requested, that is incredibly damning.”
“I know Mr. President, some of our members are already calling for his resignation. I am one of those who say that this is the easy way out. Stay and answer these questions.”
House Speaker Mike Johnson has called for Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle to resign; other Republicans have called for her firing.
The top Secret Service official is scheduled to appear before the Oversight Committee on Monday.
Emmer said the shooting had created a sense of unity he had never seen at a convention before.

“It’s been amazing to be in this place. You know, the president asked me the other night when I was sitting with him, ‘Do you think this is the best convention ever? And, you know, really, without being condescending?'”
“Yes,” I said, “Emmer said.
“I think what happened on Saturday moved us a lot.”
“They saw Nikki Haley, they saw Ron DeSantis when they wanted to shoot someone, kill them for what they believe in or what they’re fighting for. It’s time to come together and understand that this is much, much bigger than us.”
Former UN Ambassador Haley and Governor DeSantis received a warm embrace from the crowd when they took the stage earlier this week, with only limited booing.
Despite being Trump’s previous main opponents, they laid out why Republicans need to unite behind him, even those who disagree with him on everything.
