Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff revealed that he feels like he and Kamala Harris are “living” the political satire show “Veep,” a comedy about the hilarious, incompetent and skinny vice president.
Emhoff spoke about his first three years as Second Gentleman to the first Black female vice president during an appearance on ‘Watch What Happens Live’ with host Andy Cohen on Bravo.
When Cohen asked Emhoff if he had seen the HBO comedy, the Second Gentleman responded, “We’re living it.”
The show Veep centers on fictional Vice President Selina Meyer, the country’s first female vice president, played by actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

The fictional vice president makes embarrassing gaffes, berates behind-the-scenes staff for their failures, and delivers meaningless political word salad speeches. Fans of the show frequently cite episodes in which the fictional vice president imitates the real-life comedy of Harris’ vice presidency.
Emhoff described his wife’s job as “24/7, 365 days a year, non-stop.”
“This is ongoing,” Emhoff explained. ‘When the phone rings after hours. Nobody calls to say hello. Is it all very intense? It’s a lot and I’m very proud of it.
He explained that he had to invent his role, as the first, the “Second Gentleman.”
“I also didn’t want to be stuck in any gender norms or anything like that and here I am supporting the first women to be vice president,” she said.

Emhoff explained that he tries to be a supportive husband and joked that it was a matter of national importance.
“In an instant I’m traveling the country, traveling the world, doing everything I can to support her first as a husband, because if I’m not being good, it’s almost like a national security issue,” he joked. “I don’t need her to be mad at me, I need her to be focused.”
Emhoff deflected reports about the frosty personal relationship between his wife and the Biden family, especially after Harris attacked Biden during the Democratic primary over his record on racial issues.
When Cohen asked if the two couples ever went on a double date, Emhoff demurred.
‘We are working very hard, but we are with them all the time. The four of us together, it’s great,’ she replied flatly.

When asked who her favorite second lady was, Emhoff named Jill Biden, the current first lady. Jill Biden was second lady when Joe Biden was President Barack Obama’s vice president.
“She’s amazing,” he concluded.
He cited Karen, the wife of Vice President Mike Pence, as someone who gave him good advice on how to handle the job.

‘There are very few people you can talk to about job performance. And she was one of them,’ she claimed. “She was a great help.”
Cohen asked if Emhoff and Harris had the opportunity to meet Beyonce, citing reports that he and the vice president attended one of her concerts.
“I met her with 80,000 people,” Emhoff said, referring to her attendance at the concert. “She was working that night. We didn’t get that honor. But the show was incredible.”
He also admitted that he and Harris failed to get an audience with Pope Francis when they visited the Vatican.
“We went to the Vatican and he was busy that day,” Emhoff said.
Doug Emhoff admitted that both Beyonce and Pope Francis were too busy for a private audience when they were in the area.
