Andor’s second and final season is currently in production, and details so far indicate that the series will delve deeper into its story of building a revolution from scratch. As production wraps up later this year, we’ve learned more about the series and how the final episodes will lead directly into Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Series creator and general supervisor Tony Gilroy told Empire Magazine that the final three episodes of Andor will take place during the three days leading up to Cassian Andor’s opening scene in Rogue One, which saw the character meet with an Empire informant about rumors of a superweapon made by the Empire. While we know the series will end before jumping right into the moments leading up to Rogue One, the fact that it’s a story focused on the days leading up to Cassian’s fateful mission could mean we’ll get some interesting storylines.
In his interview with Empire MagazineSpeaking about the series’ finale, series lead Diego Luna said Gilroy “the risks he’s going to take this season are very different.”
Gilroy continued, “By all means. Look, man, I’m not trying to make my career here, I’m actually in the final stages of a long career. But here’s an opportunity. That’s 1,500 pages of the most dynamic material in these people’s lives to deal with. We made it.” It’s the first time, and we’re not going to back down now.”
The risks he will take this season are very different.
While the first season of Andor focused on a year in Cassian Andor’s life five years prior to the events of Rogue One, the second and final season will span its 12 episodes over four years, with all three episodes focusing on one year of Cassian’s life as the leader of the Rebels. Plans were initially for Andor to extend over five seasons, but Gilroy later revised his plans and chose to end it in just two seasons.
It is noteworthy that the first season of Andor and the movie Rogue One are currently available on Disney Plus.
