15 game winning streak MORE

Blaydes has barely been in the fight but wins it in the space of about 10 seconds. Almeida tries to take him down but he is dull and puts his head in a bad position. Blaydes then lands a series of unanswered hammerfists in succession and it’s enough to end the fight. Wow.

Boos in Miami

Almeida fights Blaydes in the first, wearing him down and not allowing him a moment to breathe. The crowd doesn’t like it and wants to see more action, but the Brazilian controlled it closely and returned his opponent to the canvas seemingly at will.

Featured Preliminary Time

Almeida and Blaydes are part of the young generation of weapons at heavyweight. Both men will have seen Aspinall beat Pavlovich and will feel they are not far away from making a shot. Blaydes, of course, beat Aspinall on a technicality when they met in London and the Brit was injured early on. Almeida is an enormously powerful contender, but today will be his biggest test yet. Wonderboy takes the American.

Six in a row for Barber

Maybe there’s a spot in the main event for Barber, who sidelines Cerminara at flyweight. The American is likely to be one of the top five fighters in the rankings next week.

Thoughts on celebrating the backflip?

It always looks undeniably cool when it’s off, but with ACL tear potential when it’s not. Kyler Phillips managed to execute it perfectly tonight after defeating Pedro Munhoz. Gaethje’s backflip off the cage is another level of insanity all together.

Keep an eye on Despaigne

This man stands 6-foot-7 and has a reach of 87 inches, the longest in the UFC. He is still at an early stage in his MMA career, but he appears to be a bright prospect and an odd athlete. A winning start to life for him in tonight’s big show.

Gamrot is a problem

RDA was once a man no one wanted to face but the veteran is no longer in his prime, far from it. That said, Gamrot and his relentless fighting have caused problems for everyone, and while he’s not the most exciting fighter in the world, he is tremendously effective.

How’s this for a celebrity?

What do the statistics reveal?

Will it be revenge or will it happen again later? The only loss of O’Malley’s career is one he considers a fluke, but Vera landed the kick that committed him fairly, so what are the chances of him repeating the trick tonight? Here’s what the numbers say about both men…

EARLY PRELIMINARY RESULTS

Joanne Wood opened the first prelims with a decision victory over Maryna Moroz before Assu Almabayev defeated CJ Vergara via the same decision.

Then, the long-awaited debut of the huge Robelis Despaigne ended with a first-round KO victory for the Cuban and Michel Pereira defeated Michal Oleksiejczuk.

How do the fighters see it?

It’s always fascinating to see how fellow UFC fighters view a main event, and interestingly, opinion is divided despite the bookmakers favoring the champion.

Hello fight fans!

UFC 299 has arrived! The big, bad UFC 300 card is coming next month, but for my money, tonight’s event isn’t a million miles away in terms of depth and quality. Keep it here for the latest updates on the prelims and main card ahead of Sean O’Malley’s title defense against Marlon Vera later on the main card.
