The Block host Scott Cam has revealed that controversial contestants Jesse Maguire and Paige Beechey’s shock decision to quit the reality show was all theirs.
The controversial couple, who were dubbed this season’s “villains,” walked out Monday night after producers were forced to intervene during an explosive argument between the two on Monday’s episode.
Producers suggested the couple seek professional help, which culminated in their departure from the show.
In a video posted on 9Now On Tuesday, Scott, 61, said producers had a “duty of care” toward the couple.
“We’ve always said we’re not doing anything major here, we’re just renovating,” Scott said in the video.
“Health, wellbeing and happiness always come first on The Block. We always make sure that the contestants’ wellbeing comes first.”
Scott added that after speaking with professionals, Jesse and Paige made the decision to leave the popular reality show.
“We received professional help and had extensive conversations,” he said.
Scott Cam has revealed that the shocking decision by controversial Block contestants Jesse Maguire and Paige Beechley to quit the reality show was theirs alone.
“They made the decision themselves, we didn’t force them to leave. They made the decision themselves that they wanted to go home. We provided them with professional care in their home state for as long as they needed it.”
The engaged couple were caught arguing off-camera on Monday’s episode, but with their microphones still on.
Paige can be heard questioning her relationship with Jesse, stating, “There’s no us.”
She angrily added: “I don’t give a shit how you feel, accept it yourself” before threatening to leave the show.
The controversial couple who have been dubbed this season’s “villains” left on Monday night after producers were forced to intervene.
By 11:30 p.m. that same day, their argument was loud enough to be heard throughout The Block.
At that point executive producer Justin Sturzaker intervened, pointing out that the couple had had heated arguments before.
“It seems like the relationship is getting worse. Your neighbors can hear you too, you know?” he told them.
Sturzaker then suggested that Paige and Jesse talk to the show’s psychologists.
“You don’t have to tell everything you have just to Jesse. We need other people to talk to you when they have to make an important decision,” she said.
The couple did so over the weekend and announced on Monday that they had decided to leave the series.
“Health, wellbeing and happiness always come first on The Block. We always make sure that the contestants’ wellbeing comes first,” Scott said in a video posted on 9Now.
Paige said the past week had been a “cry for help” and added: “It was like a black hole in my head.”
Host Scott Cam wished them well, saying, “We feel like they need to go somewhere other than here to take care of themselves.”
This comes after a The Block host revealed what Jesse and Paige are really like amid a huge backlash from viewers.
Many viewers have taken issue with the couple’s on-screen emotional crises, but one builder has revealed what it was really like working with them.
“They made the decision themselves, we didn’t force them to leave. They made the decision themselves that they wanted to go home,” he added. “We provided them with professional care in their home state for as long as they needed it.”
Zak Sydenham of ZS Custom Builds has come to the pair’s defence amid the onslaught of criticism, saying he has “had a lot of fun” after working closely with them.
The worker also appeared to criticise the way the couple was edited on the Channel Nine show.
“Despite what it looks like, (filming The Block) was filled with laughter, hijinks, and an overall enjoyable experience,” she gushed in an Instagram post.
“Thank you for trusting us to make your ideas a reality.”
The builder went on to admit that while the couple “had their moments,” it was never as bad as it seemed on screen.
“They definitely had their moments, like every couple, but it was never as bad as it was portrayed (in the issue),” she told Yahoo Lifestyle.
‘Obviously what’s been shown has happened and those conversations (happened), but there’s been a lot of things that haven’t been shown that make it seem like her reactions and comments are out of character.’
