Model Gigi Hadid may have the perfect jawline, a study concludes.
The 28-year-old supermodel, who has a son with former One Direction singer Zayn Malik and has been linked to actor Leonardo DiCaprio, has a jaw angle of 141.9 degrees when viewed from the front of her face.
According to the researchers, this is close to the “perfect” angle of 142 degrees.
When the model’s face was shown to 32 expert facial surgeons and 16 ordinary people, they unanimously agreed that her jaw was neither too pronounced nor too flat.
Meanwhile, an older supermodel, Kate Moss, had a nice jaw angle when viewed from the front, which 76 percent of experts and non-experts rated as attractive.
Gigi Hadid has a jaw angle of 141.9 degrees when viewed from the front of her face, close to the “perfect” angle of 142 degrees.
Jaw angle is measured where the vertical part of the jaw, which descends directly from the ear, changes angle to become a gentler slope toward the chin.
A larger angle tends to be seen as softer and more feminine, while a smaller angle is more masculine, as seen on square-jawed celebrities like Brad Pitt.
Stella Maxwell, a model and ex-girlfriend of pop star Miley Cyrus and actress Kristen Stewart, earned the highest score for how closely the vertical part of her jaw matched the slope of her forehead.
Meanwhile, Jessica Stam, known as one of the “doll face” models, was found to have the best ratio of the distance along the jawline compared to the distance along the middle of face.
The results come from a study published in the Journal of Cranio-Maxillo-Facial Surgery, published by Elsevier.
Dr Robbert Cleymaet, from the division of oromaxillofacial surgery at Ghent University Hospital, Belgium, who led the study, said: “It is surprising that relatively small differences in the angle of women’s jaws can actually have a big impact. in people’s view of their attractiveness.
“The pandemic has transformed face-to-face meetings into video calls, making people more aware of their facial appearance, so it is interesting, not only for scientists, to know what angles and contours of the face are considered beautiful.”
The researchers conducted an online survey, asking people to rate different aspects of the jawlines of 53 female celebrities and models.
95 percent of testers rated actress Amber Heard as having a jaw angle that was neither too steep nor too flat.
Movie siren Brigitte Bardot and Russian model Irina Shayk, former partner of actor Bradley Cooper, had an attractive tilt of the lower jaw, according to at least 80 percent of testers.

Kate Moss (right) had a nice jaw angle when viewed from the front, which 76 percent of experts and non-experts rated as attractive. Meanwhile, Jessica Stam (left), known as one of the ‘doll face’ models, was found to have the best ratio between the distance across the jawline compared to the distance across the center of face.
Based on the ratings, the study concludes that the perfect jawline is at 142 degrees when viewed from the front and 125.5 degrees when viewed from the profile.
The ratio of the distance across the jaw, compared to the distance across the center of the face, is 0.83.
It follows a similar study conducted in 2016 that found that men prefer to have a strong jaw.
For example, two-thirds of people surveyed for that study rated actor Brad Pitt’s jaw as being in a good upright position.
The current study, on female faces, concludes that some women could end up having implants to achieve a perfect jawline.
Regarding the importance of jaw structure, the researchers conclude: ‘The importance of pleasant facial aesthetics in numerous elements of well-being and quality of life has traditionally been underestimated in medicine.
“An attractive face is associated with more opportunities, more success and self-confidence.”
