Schoolgirl, 15, fatally stabbed in Croydon

These images show the heavy police presence in Croydon after a 15-year-old girl was stabbed to death near a shopping centre.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called today (September 27) at 8.33am to reports of an incident on Wellesley Road, Croydon.

“We sent several resources to the scene, including three ambulance crews, an incident response officer and an advanced paramedic in a car. We also sent the London Air Ambulance.

“We treated a teenage girl but sadly, despite our best efforts, she died at the scene.”

Detectives confirmed that a man has been arrested in connection with the stabbing.

Chief Superintendent Andy Brittain said: “Our immediate thoughts are with the family of this young woman who are facing the most tragic news. Our officers are with the girl’s family to support them.

“I am in contact with the local community, who are clearly as concerned as we are about this tragic incident. I will continue to update you throughout the day.

“My officers immediately arrived on scene to provide first aid and support the paramedics.

“Based on information provided to them, officers also worked closely with colleagues across the Met and British Transport Police to trace a teenager in connection with the stabbing. I can confirm that an arrest was made at around 09:45 in the Croydon area. At this early stage we believe that he may have known her.

“The crime scene will be ready for some time and I appreciate the cooperation of the residents.”

A 15-year-old schoolgirl was stabbed to death in Croydon.

Police received reports of an attack near Whitgift shopping center on Wednesday. Footage taken at the scene shows several police cars and ambulances at a cordon on Wellesley Road.
