School district investigates video of teacher encouraging students to stay true to gay pride flag

A California high school teacher is under investigation by the school board after she revealed she had made her students swear by the gay pride flag instead of the American one.

Kristin Pitzen, of Orange County’s Newport Mesa School District, posted a video to TikTok, admitting she removed the US flag because it made her “uncomfortable.”

When one of her English class students pointed out that it was missing during the Pledge of Allegiance, she told them to recite the pledge in front of the only flag she had in her classroom – the gay pride flag.

The TikTok has since gone viral, sparking a backlash from many parents angry that she was teaching children to “respect” the American flag.

‘How can the words ‘for freedom and justice for all’ arouse such hatred in people? How can anyone have (a) problem with those words?’ a user replied.

Some even questioned why she lives in America and called on the school to fire her and parents to homeschool their children.

While others praised her and went so far as to say they wanted her to teach their own children.

In the controversial TikTok, Pitzen reveals that the Pledge of Allegiance is read during announcements in the third period.

She used to say to her class, ‘Get up when you feel like it, don’t stand up when you feel like it. Say the words if you want, don’t have to say the words.’

“So my class decided to stand up, but not say the words—all right,” she said.

“Except my room doesn’t have a flag,” added Pitzen.

“It used to be there,” she said in the video, turning the camera and pointing at the wall at the front of the classroom.

“But I removed it during Covid,” she said, whispering that she did “because it made me feel uncomfortable.”

She said she “tucked it away” but doesn’t know where, laughing in a way that suggested otherwise, prompting the school district to open an investigation.

“And I haven’t found it yet,” Pitzen added, putting her hand over her mouth to suppress a laugh.

When a student asks her where the flag is and says it’s ‘a little weird that we stand and then we say it (the pledge of allegiance) to nothing’, the teacher shrugged it off and said: “I’m working on it, I’ve got you.”

The TikTok then cuts to Pitzen and then silently says “no” while shaking her head.

Meanwhile, she said to the student, “We do have a flag in the classroom that you can pledge your allegiance to.”

She told her students she had lost the American flag, whispering into the video and giggling to imply she did it on purpose because it made her “uncomfortable.”

“And he says, ‘Oh, that one’?” she added as she shows the gay pride flag in the classroom.

The original TikTok has since been taken down — along with all of Pitzen’s social media accounts — but has been viewed over 1.2 million times on Twitter.

An earlier video she posted to her account where she goes by @MrsGillingsworth the teacher celebrated Pride Month on June 1 and showed her celebrating by putting up several pride flags in her classroom.

“I swear allegiance to the gays,” she said in the video, wearing rainbow glasses, earrings and braces.

Not everyone disagreed with Pitzen, with some praising her decision, while others said they would have felt more comfortable promising the gay pride flag instead of the American flag

Pitzen also displayed the big pride flag she got at Target and planned to hang on the wall — the same one she later told one of her students they could make the pledge in place of the American flag.

‘I love you all very much. For the people who are out, for the people who are not out – you are appreciated, you are loved, you are enough. I support you,” she said at the end of the video.

The video was disgusted by many online who taunted her for being “disrespectful to our American flag.”

Others demanded her resignation and threatened to contact her school.

‘She must be reported to the school board as soon as possible!! Thank God I don’t have any kids at school anymore.’

Many more accused her of “indoctrinating” their children.
