The Gilas Pilipinas teams will begin their 5×5 basketball campaigns at the 2022 Asian Games in 2023 starting September 26 at various locations in Hangzhou, China.
In men’s basketball, 16 teams are divided into four groups of four. The Gilas men’s team, which is in Group C with Jordan, Bahrain and Thailand, will compete in a single round-robin in the preliminaries.
The best team per group will receive a direct place in the knockout quarter-finals, while the second and third best teams per group will be eligible for the remaining places in the play-offs.
On the women’s side, 12 teams, including Gilas women, competing against Kazakhstan, Hong Kong and Japan will feature in the group stage, with the top two teams per group and the top two third-place teams advancing to the KO stage .
It is the first time that the Philippine team will send a squad to the women’s basketball competition.
The men’s medal rounds and final ranking competitions are scheduled for October 5 and 6.
