Schalke collects: Thiaw clauses revealed

Date:

FC Schalke 04 saw themselves forced to sell what is probably the most talented player in the squad to AC Milan last summer, primarily for financial reasons. After all, the Revier club, threatened with relegation, cashes in heavily for new national player Malick Thiaw. The first bonuses could flow to Gelsenkirchen as early as summer.

FC Schalke 04 is closely monitoring the development of central defender Malick Thiaw at Serie A club AC Milan. Not only because of the old attachment to the home-grown plant, but probably also out of financial interest.

Because: The miners negotiated a transfer model with the Italians last summer, in which performance-related bonus payments have to be paid in addition to the base fee. S04 has already received the basic amount of eight million euros, and the first bonuses could be due in a few weeks.

As “Sport Bild” reports, the Milanese have to transfer 300,000 euros to FC Schalke 04 after Malick Thiaw’s 20th, 40th, 60th and 80th competitive game. In total, S04 could receive 1.2 million euros. For each Champions League qualification of the Rossoneri, an additional 250,000 euros will go to the Royal Blues.

However, the limit for all additional payments is two million euros, according to the sports newspaper.

FC Schalke 04 can hope for the first additional payments

Malik Thiaw was initially not an option for head coach Stefano Pioli after his arrival in Milan, nor was he called up for the Champions League squad. The situation for the 20-year-old changed abruptly last autumn, as he gradually fought his way into the Milan team. He is now also eligible to play in the premier class, with two appearances already to his name.

Thiaw is currently in 13 competitive games, with ten games remaining in the current Serie A season and the two quarter-final duels in the Champions League against Napoli, he has a good chance of cracking the first bonus mark in 2022/23.

According to “Sport Bild”, a not insignificant clause in the defender’s transfer contract is the resale participation of ten percent. Means: If Thiaw is transferred in the future, Schalke 04 will receive a tenth of the transfer surplus. Money that, however, could only flow in the distant future. Thiaw’s contract is dated until 2027.
