A man has died after crashing his car into a dam in a mysterious overnight accident.
The blue Mitsubishi Lancer hatchback ended up on its roof submerged in a body of water after veering off a road in Sawyers Valley, about 40 kilometers east of Perth, about 10pm on Wednesday.
Emergency services and police divers worked through the night to extract the driver and the car.
“Tragically, police discovered the body of a 34-year-old man inside the vehicle,” WA Police said.
The car was later removed from the dam, which was located on private property.

The car was later taken from the dam, located on private property.
Surprised neighbors recalled hearing a commotion when the car slid into the three-meter-deep dam and sank to the bottom of the “very murky and very cold” water.
“I just saw the tail lights underwater, that was it,” witness Chris Woodward told Seven News.
He called triple-0, but it was too late to save the driver when emergency services arrived.
Another neighbor described hearing a “hissing sound.”
“I couldn’t do anything at all, the dam is about three meters deep, it’s very murky and it’s very cold,” said the neighbor.
“It’s terribly tragic. You never want this to happen on your doorstep.”
