An Oklahoma mother reportedly conducted disturbing internet searches in the days before taking her four-month-old son to the hospital, where he would eventually succumb to his horrific injuries.
Savawna Bowen, 23, was taken into custody Friday on a felony charge of child neglect — almost exactly a year after her infant son died of a broken jaw, broken ribs, a broken femur and severe brain injuries. Reports on law and crime.
The boy’s father, Daquan White, also 23, has previously been charged with the child’s murder and child abuse.
But prosecutors now say Bowen knew White had injured their son and waited several days before getting him medical attention.
She reportedly searched for the term “broken leg,” and the next day she searched for “the baby’s thigh sticking out” instead of rushing the child to the hospital.
In an affidavit obtained by News at 6Police say Bowen left her two children — the infant and a two-year-old — in White’s care while she stayed with her boyfriend last year.
When she finally returned, she noticed there was a red spot on the baby’s leg, which she asked White about.
The father reportedly explained that when he lifted the young child’s leg, he heard a popping sound.

Still, prosecutors allege Bowen left her children with White for another eight hours while she spent time with her friends.
By the time Bowen returned to White’s home, she noticed her baby was crying in pain.
At that point, White allegedly admitted to putting his fingers in the baby’s mouth and pressing down in an attempt to get the baby to stop crying.
The child was supposed to have a seizure, but the affidavit claims White told Bowen to wait before taking him to the hospital and lied about the injury to the baby’s leg.
Prosecutors say Bowen conducted a number of disturbing Internet searches in the days that followed.
On January 3, 2024, she searched for the term “broken leg,” and the next day she searched for “baby’s thigh sticking out.”
Bowen then allegedly waited a few more days before searching again for “baby can’t move mouth” and “mouth swollen” on January 7.
Apparently disturbed by the results, Bowen eventually took the child to the hospital the next day.
But police say doctors told them the baby likely would have survived his injuries if Bowen had taken him to the hospital sooner.
Instead, the child died on January 11.
