Vivid Sydney festival-goers were left outraged by the “ridiculous” price being charged for a simple sausage sizzle.
The event, known for its dazzling light displays, returned to Sydney on May 24. However, many attendees were stunned when a food vendor charged $8.50 for a sausage and onion in bun.
One frustrated attendee shared a photo of the vendor’s price list on Reddit and commented: “I’ve seen everyone talking about the crowds and not being able to see the drone show this year, but can we talk about the price of a sausage at bread.
“I don’t care what the reason is: $8.50 is disgusting.”
Vivid Sydney’s sausage sizzle, priced at $8.50, is more than 325 percent more expensive than the common $2 sausage sizzle found at fundraising events.
In Australia, a typical sausage in bun usually costs between $2.00 and $4.00 at community events, fundraisers or local markets.
“I might pay $5 if I was hungry, but I would never be hungry enough to spend $8.50 on a sausage roll,” added a second.
“It’s almost never worth buying from food stalls,” said a third.
“For that price you can buy yourself sausages, bread and gravy and eat several sausage sandwiches,” added a fourth.
In Australia, a typical sausage and bun usually costs between $2 and $4 at community events, fundraisers or local markets.
This means Vivid Sydney’s sausage sizzle, priced at $8.50, is more than 325 percent more expensive than the common $2 sausage sizzle found at fundraising events.
