Manchester United and Liverpool are reportedly at odds to find Atlético Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez.
As Sportsmail reported on Wednesday, Barcelona and the LaLiga title winners are in advanced negotiations over the summer’s swap deal, with Saul moving to Camp Nou and Antoine Griezmann returning to Wanda Metropolitano.
And AS have now revealed that the two English giants could get the 26-year-old if talks with Barca don’t go ahead.

Barcelona are in talks with Atleti about a deal with Saul that would also involve Antoine Griezmann
Saul’s agent has also reportedly been in touch with both Liverpool and Manchester United
The Reds may be particularly interested in strengthening central midfield following Georginio Wijnaldum’s departure to Paris Saint-Germain earlier this month.
Saul has fallen out of favor with Diego Simeone and has not been allowed to establish himself in his favorite central midfield area, with the arrival of Rodrigo De Paul from Udinese taking him further down the pecking order.
The Colchoneros now seem willing to let their one-club man fly the nest for €40 million (£34.3 million), while Saul still has five years left on his current contract.
Meanwhile, Barcelona must drastically cut their wages to meet LaLiga’s strict salary cap as they prepare to strike a new deal for Lionel Messi.
With a wage from Griezmann of more than £300,000 a week, he is the highest paid player in the Camp Nou after Messi’s old contract expires.
While Atleti is optimistic about signing a deal with their Spanish rivals, there are concerns that Barca would be reluctant to send Griezmann back after just two seasons following the doomed decision to sell Luis Suarez to the Spanish capital club after the Uruguayan 21 league goals last year inspired the season’s run to the title.

Rafa Mir has been suggested as a possible asset to Diego Simeone if Saul moves to England
However, reaching an agreement with Barca would be more beneficial to Atleti than selling to Saul to England, as they would get Griezmann in return.
However, if Saul moves to United or Liverpool, Wolves’ Rafa Mir will be touted as a possible move to the Wanda.
The 24-year-old has played away from Molineux for the last three seasons since arriving in 2018 and was Huesca’s top goalscorer in 2020/21 when the side were relegated to Spain’s second tier.
