Saudi Arabia announces latest audacious NEOM destination: ‘Elevated haven’ Treyam resort will feature world’s longest sky pool on roof of 250-room resort built over a desert lagoon

Saudi Arabia has announced its latest extremely ambitious construction project: the world’s longest panoramic swimming pool built on the roof of a 250-room resort.

Treyam is billed as a “haven of peace”: a luxury resort spanning a desert lagoon, with a swimming pool almost half a kilometer long on its roof.

This is the latest vision revealed by the kingdom as part of its plans to build a huge, futuristic new city called NEOM. But it remains to be seen whether the project will see the light of day one day.

The team behind NEOM said: “Boasting a bold design with minimal on-site intervention, Treyam offers guests an elevated haven in which to relax, recharge and enjoy majestic natural surroundings.

“Strategically located at the entrance to one of the most beautiful azure lagoons at the southern end of the Gulf of Aqaba, Treyam presents itself as a luxury gateway inviting guests to experience active lifestyles.

The design shows the hotel and 250-room resort and the 450-meter-long rooftop infinity pool, 36 meters above the water.

It is said that guests will feel like they are floating with a “breathtaking panoramic view of the lagoon”.

The designs show that the bridge’s facade will create a sunset-like illusion from a distance.

Its upper and lower floors offer panoramic views of the tidal lagoon below and the vast sky above, blending into the landscape while preserving the natural integrity of the coastline.

NEOM claims it is designed for adventure and effort.

The resort will offer a variety of activities like sailing, diving and other water sports as well as land sports.

There will be a luxury spa and gourmet restaurants.

NEOM announced the latest plan yesterday.

Treyam joins a growing list of extremely optimistic projects all part of Saudi Arabia’s new NEOM city.

NEOM was launched in 2017 by Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

It is located in a large area of ​​previously mostly empty land, the size of Belgium.

Located on the northern coast of the Red Sea, the site enjoys a slightly cooler climate than the surrounding area.

NEOM has attracted worldwide attention since its debut with its extremely ambitious projects – and in terms of ambition, one project clearly takes the top spot.

The line was announced in July 2022 and construction began shortly after.

It’s a building straight out of a science fiction movie, a strip half a kilometer high, 200 meters wide, completely mirrored, with a length close to the distance of London to Birmingham.

The idea of ​​having an entire, virtually self-sufficient society inside the building arose from the idea that if an urban area is located on a straight, narrow line, transportation will be more efficient.

The line would have no roads or cars and would be served by very high-speed transit systems.

Proposed buildings such as the 170 meter long Line, which are large enough in size to create a self-sufficient environment, are known as arcologies.

If the line is completed, it will be by far the largest building ever constructed on earth.

The Line, like the rest of NEOM, has been the subject of much criticism.

Some have said that Saudi Arabia is trying to distract the world from its human rights violations.

Others believe there is hypocrisy in environmentally damaging construction processes that create supposedly environmentally friendly buildings.

NEOM would have a completion date set for 2050 – and if so, it is estimated that by then the cost of the project will be $1 trillion (£783.5 billion ).
