Saudi Arabia has announced its new coach after the departure of Roberto Mancini

Saudi Arabia has revealed its new coach to replace Roberto Mancini.

Mancini, who was appointed in August 2023, left his position this week. He was understood to earn £21m a year.

Reports from Saudi Arabia and Italy have revealed that Mancini’s severance package is between €20m (£16.7m) and €25m (£20.8m), tax-free.

Mancini was described by Gazzetta dello Sport as “cold, distant, with an air of superiority that distanced him from the people.”

In total, Mancini coached 20 games, of which he won eight, drew seven and lost five.

Saudi Arabia has reappointed Hervé Renard, who previously led them between 2019 and 2023.

During his previous tenure in charge, Renard led Saudi Arabia to a memorable victory against eventual champions Argentina in the group stage of the 2022 World Cup. However, Saudi Arabia failed to advance to the knockout rounds.

After his departure, Renard took charge of the French women’s team. He previously won the African Cup of Nations with Zambia in 2012 and Ivory Coast in 2015.

Mancini had angered Saudi Arabian fans after leaving a match against South Korea in the Asian Cup before defeat was decided.
