A Sydney man had his weekend gardening plans disrupted after receiving a call informing him he had won a whopping $1.2 million.
The man was watering the garden of his home in Botany, south of Sydney’s CBD, on Sunday morning when he responded to a call from an official at The Lott.
Officials told the man he had one of four division one winning entries nationwide in Saturday Lotto draw 4527, making him the winner of $1,258,663.69.
The man also scored 18 times in division three, 45 times in division four and 20 times in division six in his System 9 entry, increasing his total prize money to $1,271,613.09.
He explained that he was unaware of his windfall and was in disbelief after discovering that he had become a millionaire.
“How good that is,” the man exclaimed.
‘Wow. Excellent. Simply excellent, that’s the best word I can use. I was outside watering the plants. I had no idea.’

The man added that he always believed he would win and had been playing his “lucky numbers” every week for years.
“I play the same numbers every week; they are my lucky numbers, but I can’t even understand why I chose them all those years ago,” the man said.
‘Did you know? I always thought I would win, if that makes sense.
“That’s why I kept playing the same numbers.”
The man said he still had no idea how he will use the money.
‘Needless to say, it won’t go astray. “It means a great Christmas and 2025 for my family,” he said.
There were four division one entries from across the country, with two landing in New South Wales and one each in Queensland and Victoria.
The winning numbers for Saturday Lotto draw 4527 were 1, 16, 11, 13, 35 and 7, while the supplementary numbers were 5 and 14.
Three other lucky Australians scored division one winning entries, with one of them landing in New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria.
The Lott’s division one winner count has reached 417 so far in 2024, including 121 won by NSW Lotteries customers.
In fiscal year 2024, there were 292 winning division one Saturday lottery tickets totaling more than $436 million, creating 158 millionaires nationwide.
