SAS Australia first trailer: Sam Burgess set to discuss divorce from Phoebe

Sam Burgess is set to discuss his highly publicised divorce from ex-wife Phoebe in the upcoming series of SAS: Australia.

On Sunday, Channel Seven unleashed the first bombshell trailer for the new season which focused heavily on the former NRL star, 32 – who said he has ‘lost it all’ during an intense interrogation.

‘I’ve lost my career, my kids and my marriage. There was a police investigation into me. I turned to drinking, drugs… I’ve lost it all,’ Sam uttered in the clip.

The footage then cut to Sam sinking underwater in a car during an adrenalin-pumping challenge, before being shouted at by chief instructor Ant Middleton alongside the rest of the cast.

Sam is arguably one of the most well-known faces of this season’s new recruits, after hitting headlines numerous times over the past few years.

The South Sydney captain retired from the NRL with immediate effect due to a shoulder injury back in 2019.

A year later, he finalised his divorce with Phoebe just before Christmas following five tumultuous years of marriage – leaving them to co-parent their two children, Poppy, four, and Billy, two, together.

Sam hit headlines again in February 2021, after he was found guilty of intimidating Phoebe’s father Mitchell Hooke during a heated clash in the aftermath of their messy split 18 months prior.

However, the following month in March, Judge Mark Williams overturned that decision in the New South Wales District Court.

In May 2021, Sam pleaded guilty to three driving charges following a February 22 police traffic stop where he tested positive for cocaine.

He avoided conviction, and was instead slapped with two $581 fines and ordered to complete a traffic offenders program.

Sam has since revealed he has stopped drinking completely in an attempt to change his life for the better.

He credited a month in a rehabilitation facility for his transformation and hinted at his plan to resurrect his career in the coaching set-up for the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

‘It has changed my life and I have to say that I wish I did this some time earlier,’ he told the Sydney Morning Herald at the time. ‘My next aim is to restart my professional life and I want to be involved with rugby league again.’

Elsewhere in the trailer, Geoffrey Edelsten’s ex-wife Brynne, 38, was seen jumping out of a helicopter.

She exclaimed: ‘I am more than just Geoffrey’s ex-wife. I’m not a gold digger – I can get through anything.’

Former Home and Away star Dan Ewing was then seen rapidly skimming down the side of a steep cliff, while tennis champion Alicia Molik was filming struggling to grapple through the wilderness.
