Sara Huegill's shoplifting charge has been nullified for mental health reasons after she was accused of stealing a pair of $ 2,500 leather pants.

The wife of Australian swimming champion Geoff Huegill appeared Friday at the Byron Bay Local Court, where the sole charge against her was suspended.

The charge is related to accusations that the 35-year-old robbed his pants at a boutique store while shopping on Mother's Day this year.

During a court hearing in June, a lawyer acting on behalf of Ms. Huegill requested a deferment so that she could undergo a mental health exam, known as Section 32.

"Sara deeply regrets the incident and apologizes without reservation," his lawyer said in a statement in May.

"Sara has progressed quite recently when treated for problems related to anxiety and depression and recognizes that this is a setback.

"She has asked for privacy and understanding for her family at this time."

More to come.
