The former track and field athlete, 37, who is partnered with professional Vanessa James, 36, skipped the dress rehearsal and her future performances are in doubt.

But Susie confirmed that Greg will return to the ice on Sunday, as she shared a sweet message on Instagram Stories.

While sitting in the audience, she wrote: ‘Tonight there will be a very fun show: musical night!

“Please vote for Greg and Vanessa if you enjoy them because as much as I miss him, it’s really nice that he’s not at home halfway building things all the time.”

Greg Rutherford’s fiancée Susie has shown her support for him after he suffered an injury ahead of Sunday’s Dancing On Ice.

It comes after an ITV source told MailOnline: “Greg missed the dress rehearsal due to injury, so at this stage it is uncertain whether he will attend the live show tonight.”

Greg scored his highest score yet during last week’s show, making a salsa to Ricky Martin’s La Bomba.

The duo were full of confidence in the routine which judge Oti Mabuse described as “sexy and sensual” and praised the duo’s chemistry.

Greg advanced to this week with a score of 30.5, while Claire Sweeney became the latest star to leave the series after landing the dreaded skate off with Lou Sanders.

Greg’s injury comes just after he recently opened up about his guilt over teammate Vanessa getting hurt on the ice, saying he felt “absolutely horrible.”

The pair were practicing before their second live performance for Movies Week, when Greg accidentally dropped Vanessa in a move that went wrong.

Speaking to the Express on Sunday, Greg explained: “We practiced one of the flows we were doing and I basically threw Vanessa completely wrong and really hurt her.”

“I felt terrible, absolutely horrible. That actually hit me pretty hard, but it hit her harder when she hit the ice.

‘It was one of those things where you have to remind yourself from time to time that you have to be as respectful as possible of the ice and the movement you are making.

“This sport is very dangerous, so you have to be focused, there is a big responsibility.”

He added that he constantly focuses on making sure Vanessa is safe when practicing dangerous lifts, out of fear that she could hurt herself.

He explained: “I’m probably the tallest person on the show by four or five inches and I have a very long wingspan.

“When I lift Vanessa above my head, she is very, very high and if something were to go wrong, she never touches wood, but she is too far away for her to fall.

“I’m always very aware of that, I want to protect her as much as possible.”

Greg already suffered an injury in training for the show, the first day on the ice, after getting too “excitable” with his castmates.

Greg’s injury comes just after he recently opened up about his guilt over teammate Vanessa getting hurt on the ice, saying she felt “absolutely horrible” (pictured last month).

Speaking ahead of the launch of the show, which garnered 4.2 million viewers, Greg revealed: “The first day, it had to be a bloody first day.” We did the master class. We’re all together, having a great time and doing all these little skills and pushing each other, just having a good time.

‘We’re probably starting to get a little too excitable. Well, I did, in particular, and decided that to try and win a race instead of skating, I would just run on my toes.’

He continued: “Then I went too fast for my legs and I fell to the ground like it wasn’t tomorrow and to be totally honest I thought I had broken my hip.”

“It was such a strong impact and I think the first show will show how big of a hit it was and I had this huge egg shape on my hip.

“I showed it to one of the coaches and said, ‘Is that normal?’ Is it like a normal ice burn, some kind of reaction?” and they said, “No, no, I think you should go get that checked.”

‘Thankfully he recovered, but it was a big eye-opener straight away. But the moment I did it, I thought, that’s it, my Dancing on Ice is over because it was the amount of pain.

Meanwhile, bosses have revealed a surprising twist ahead of Sunday’s show, with a double elimination based on a combined score of the judge’s verdicts and the public vote.

The pair with the lowest score will leave the competition immediately without having the opportunity to perform a skate-off to save themselves.

The next two couples at the bottom of the leaderboard will have the opportunity to skate to try to have a future in the competition.

Judges Oti, Ashley Banjo, Jayne Torville and Christopher Dean will then get the chance to say who they want to save to continue in the glitzy competition.
