Speaking about ageing, she said: “I think what happens when you turn 50 is that you realise, if you’re lucky, that you’re halfway there, or even more. Your body is changing and you have to pay attention to all those things.

‘But in your 20s and 30s, you’re building your own family unit, in your 40s you’re still enjoying yourself and you’re starting to save money for the future, but in those decades, you’re also collecting.

‘You’re collecting your ideals, you’re collecting your values, you’re collecting your stuff, you’re collecting your family, you’re collecting yourself. And I think when you get to 50, what happens is you realize that you have your collection in place and you love it because it’s you.

‘You have your stuff and you have most of your people, and you know where you’re going and who you are because you built it. Now, if you don’t like it, you can rebuild it, you still have time, which is a beautiful thing.

“But most of the time, last night I was literally lying in bed thinking, ‘I like my stuff, I like my life, I like what I’ve created and I’m proud of myself. ‘ And I think that’s really what happens, and I’m not sure I’ve ever heard anyone put it that way.”
