Samuel Johnson claims he thought he was ‘a Japanese schoolgirl for days’ after suffering a brain injury from a near-fatal car accident
Samuel Johnson has revealed the bizarre symptoms he experienced after nearly dying in a shocking car accident in June 2021.
The 45-year-old actor said he “spoke with a Russian accent for several days” and then thought he was a “Japanese schoolgirl.”
“Admittedly, I was a little crazy right after the accident. I had a Russian accent for three days. I was an 11-year-old Japanese girl for a day and a half,” he wrote in a column for the Love you sister website.
“And there was a pseudonym on my wrist. I just knew my name wasn’t Alexis. My name was Sam, and I was a cancer fundraiser. It was a confusing time.’
“I was convinced I was in a donut factory, then I thought maybe I was in an insane asylum. It’s called Post Traumatic Amnesia, or PTA.”

Samuel was driving to a relative’s house on June 19, 2021 when he stopped and crossed the road to relieve himself, because he “burst” and didn’t think he could wait another half hour.
When he was about to return to his vehicle, he was accidentally hit by a car.
He later confirmed that he had fractured his skull, suffered a cerebral hemorrhage, injured the ligaments in his neck, partially dislocated his jaw and suffered deep bruising down the side of his body.
Discussing his lucky escape on Sunrise, he added, “I’m here, so I’m really grateful.” I actually almost died.
“It’s very common for people with brain injuries to be quite emotional, and I cried a lot, I was very emotional.

“I went to a little on the bleak side, to a full-time gusher. My family wished I had never had the accident because I’m super emotional right now.”
He added that during his six-week hospital stay, he saw many people who were “much more injured” than himself.
“There were people who had been there for months and were injured a lot more than I was. I’m not trying to downplay what I went through, but there were people who were collected at a higher rate – we feel kind of lucky.
“At home we call that the good misfortune.”

“Admittedly, I was a little crazy right after the accident. I had a Russian accent for three days. I was an eleven-year-old Japanese girl for a day and a half,” he said
Samuel’s confrontation with death was another tragic blow to his family, who lost their sister Connie in September 2017.
She suffered from bone cancer at age 11, uterine cancer at age 22, and breast cancer at age 33.
Connie died a day after being awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia at the age of 40.
Samuel started the charity Love My Sister for cancer in 2012 with Connie.
