Samsung’s early foldable phone will use ‘Ultra thin’ glass and will come with a fingerprint sensor on the side according to the new leaks
- Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip will have an ‘ultra-thin’ glass screen that suggests leaks
- The folding device can also have a fingerprint sensor mounted on its side
- A glass screen will improve on the Galaxy Fold’s plastic screen
- According to reports, the Z Flip will still have a crease on the hinge
A striking new Samsung folding phone that doubles vertically as a clam cover will use a new patented ‘Ultra Thin’ glass according to the new leaks.
XDA Developers, which has leaked several details about a different Samsung flagship, the Galaxy S20, says the next Z Flip, a new addition to Samsung’s line of folding devices, will use an ‘Ultra Thin Glass’ on top of an AMOLED screen.
This means that the phone will be distinguished from other models of foldable phones, including the upcoming Motorla razr and Samsung’s original Galaxy Fold, both with plastic screens.
While the new hardware seems intriguing, Max Weinbach of XDA Developers reports that it will not solve one of the biggest drawbacks of folding screen technology: a notable fold located on the hinge.
Weinbach also reports that the Z Flip will have several other specifications and features, including a fingerprint scanner on the side of the phone and dual 12-megapixel cameras, a wide lens and an ultra wide angle.
In addition, wireless charging and reverse wireless charging will also be supported.
The leaks occur shortly after an avalanche of information about the Samsung Galaxy S20 and the S20 Plus, two upcoming Samsung premium phones.
According to XDA developers, the next Galaxy S20 Plus, the largest version of Samsung’s flagship phones to be launched in February, will definitely have a high-end 120 HZ screen that had previously only been rumored.
The 120 HZ display will offer a high refresh rate, but will only work with the standard resolution of the phone compared to the WQHD setting – quad high – which records 1440p instead of 1080p.
The phone folds into a square small enough to slide in your pocket
In addition, XDA says the phone will come with a traditional headphone jack and an ‘ultrasonic’ fingerprint scanner on the screen.
The last feature marks a significant confirmation since Samsung has tried to include on-screen fingerprint reading technology in the past to remarkably mixed results.
Samsung’s Galaxy S10, which uses similar technology, was at the center of the controversy when customers pointed out that the technology, designed to allow biometric security, was slow and easy to fool.
Both the S20 and the Z Flip could be presented in the coming months.
