Samantha Murphy update: Man arrested in search for missing mother

Members of a Facebook group committed to helping with the search for missing mother Samantha Murphy have been reprimanded after it was understood some had been messaging her family asking for information.

Missing Persons Squad detectives have arrested a man as part of their investigation into the suspicious disappearance of Ballarat East woman Samantha Murphy.

A 22-year-old Ballarat man was arrested shortly after 6am yesterday (March 6) at his home.

He remains detained, although no charges have been filed so far.

Samantha was last seen leaving her Eureka Street home around 7am on Sunday, February 4.

Despite a major investigation and extensive searches in the Canadian bush area, no trace of the 51-year-old man has been found.

There are no further updates at this time and the investigation remains ongoing.

Police have also spoken to several people as part of this investigation.

We understand that there is a continued high level of interest in this investigation and concern over Samantha’s disappearance; However, it remains essential that any speculation does not impede any aspect of the investigation.

Detectives are continuing to appeal for anyone who has CCTV or dashcam footage and has not yet spoken to police to come forward.
