Sam Neill revealed his real name after changing it when he was a young child at school.
In his new memoir Did I Ever Tell You This, the Jurassic Park star, 75, says he was born Nigel John Dermot Neill.
The famous actor, who was born in Northern Ireland but grew up in New Zealand, admits he “resents” his parents for choosing the name.
“The one thing I resent about my parents, the one thing, is that they called me Nigel,” Sam writes in the book.
“Changing my name to Sam at the age of 11 was probably the best decision I ever made.”

Neil had previously said his name was “a little trace…of a New Zealand pitch”.
The beloved actor shocked his fans earlier this month when he revealed that he was suffering from stage 3 leukemia in the book.
In an interview with WatchmanHe said, “The thing is, I’m a fraud. He’s probably dying.”

He began writing his diary as a distraction and to “give me a reason to get through the day”.
Neil said he sought medical treatment after noticing he had lumpy glands on his neck while on a publicity tour last year for Jurassic World Dominion.
The piano star stayed calm when the doctors told him of his diagnosis, and immediately began planning to write a book about his life.

I thought I needed to do something, and I thought, “Should I start writing?” he told the BBC.
I didn’t think I had a book in me, I just thought I’d write some stories. And I found it increasingly interesting.
“A year later, not only did I write the book—I didn’t have a ghostwriter—but it came out in record time,” he said proudly.
Sam’s specific disease was diagnosed as angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma.
He is now in remission but will receive chemotherapy for the rest of his life.
While reflecting on life, the veteran actor confessed, “I’m not afraid of death.” But it will bother me. Because I’d really like another decade or two, you know?
We have built all these beautiful terraces, we have olive trees and cypress trees, and I want to be there to see everything ripe. And I have my two beautiful little grandchildren. I want to see them grow up.
‘But for the dying?’ I couldn’t care less.
