“Breakfast was available to players and officials from 7 to 8.30am,” he told the Adelaide Advertiser.
“We knew Sam hadn’t attended that, and at 8:30 a.m., when Sam didn’t make it to the team bus to go to the airport, we tried to contact him right away.
“When this was not possible, I called the police station and the hospital to ask if anything had been reported during the night and had not been reported at that time.”
At this time, Streatfield decided to stay in Port Lincoln along with other club officials in an effort to locate the player.
“A short time later I received a phone call from the police informing me that they had found him and we arrived immediately to help him in any way possible,” he said.
“Everyone involved in caring for Sam was fantastic and I can’t thank them enough for their efforts.”
May is now in the ICU at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and West Adelaide is providing him and his family with ongoing support.
