Dantes, a sailor, is falsely accused of treason by his best friend Fernand, who wants Mercedes, Dantes’ girlfriend, for himself.
Dantés is imprisoned on the prison island of Chateau d’If for 13 years, where he plans to take revenge on those who betrayed him.
With the help of another prisoner, he escapes from the island and proceeds to transform into the wealthy Count of Monte Cristo as part of his plan to get revenge.
The series will premiere at the 19th Rome Film Festival.
A film adaptation of the book premiered earlier this year at the Cannes Film Festival.
Earlier this week, it was reported that Sam had ended his relationship with model Cassia, 30, with sources blaming their busy schedules and long distances for the end of their romance.
A source also said the sun that Sam, best known for his roles in The Hunger Games and Peaky Blinders, is already looking for love again.
“It was his first formal relationship after splitting from wife Laura Haddock and they had a lot of fun together,” the source said.
