Sam Claflin appears in high spirits while filming new Amazon Prime’s mystery thriller series Lazarus in Manchester

Sam Claflin appeared in good spirits when he was spotted filming some nighttime scenes in Manchester for the upcoming Amazon Prime limited series Lazarus.

The actor, 37, wrapped up in a brown coat as he got into his new character for a new story written by American author Harlan Coben and Danny Brocklehurst.

The Me Before You star was photographed filming in the drizzle, with police also joining the set for the fictional crime investigation scene.

The Hunger Games alum was then seen laughing as he ditched his stylish coat for a navy puffer jacket.

Filming has begun on the psychological mystery thriller, and Sam will star alongside Love Actually favorite Bill Nighy and Welsh star Alexandra Roach. Variety reported earlier this week.

According to its synopsis, the series tells the story of a man who returns home after his father’s suicide and begins to have disturbing experiences that cannot be explained. He quickly becomes embroiled in a series of unsolved murders while dealing with the mystery of his father’s death and the murder of his sister 25 years ago.

With Coben and Brocklehurst serving as writers and executive producers, the Daisy Jones & The Six star will have her hands full as she will also executive produce.

Coben touts an overall deal with Netflix, especially after the groundbreaking success of Fool Me Once starring Michelle Keegan, but since Lazarus is an original idea, he’s not talking about that kind of deal.

Returning to Prime screens after his role as Billy Dunne in Daisy Jones & The Six, Sam will play Laz, who is described as a “highly respected forensic psychologist who has spent his entire life running from the pain of his past.”

But it looks like he’ll be forced to confront demons from the past when he finally returns home.

Heather Curtis, current series executive for Pan-English scripted SVOD TV at Amazon MGM Studios, said: ‘Lazarus’ is a gripping series that grabs your attention from the start.

“We are thrilled to join Harlan, Danny, Quay Street and the stellar cast of Sam Claflin, Bill Nighy and Alexandra Roach to tell this compelling story to our global Prime Video customers.”

Alexandra, 36, known for her roles in The Iron Lady and Killing Eve, will play Jenna Lazarus.

Pirates of the Caribbean sensation Bill Nighy, 74, will play Doctor Lazarus, who is said to be a “psychologist and father to Laz, Jenna and Sutton” (pictured at Paris Fashion Week at early this month).

Alexandra Roach, 36, known for her roles in The Iron Lady and Killing Eve, will play Jenna Lazarus (pictured in October 2017).

According to her character description, Jenna has ‘buried “She finds herself in a world of spiritual practice,” but as soon as her brother returns home, she begins to experience unexplained phenomena and is eventually forced to confront secrets from her own past as well.

Pirates of the Caribbean sensation Bill, 74, will play Doctor Lazarus, or Dr. L., who is said to be “a psychologist and father to Laz, Jenna and Sutton.” A beloved figure within his community, he shares the charm, biting humor and charisma of his son. As he dies, he wants his son to understand that they are more similar than Laz believes.’

“Do I need to say anything more than the names Sam Claflin, Bill Nighy and Alexandra Roach to express my excitement for this limited series?” Coben said excitedly.

He went on to detail: ‘Lazarus’ is a story of loss, redemption and the eternal bond between a father and son, even after death. “It is never anything less than exciting to re-team with Danny Brocklehurst and Quay Street Productions.”

The Fool Me Once team joined forces once again for the latest Amazon Prime project, as it is the latest collaboration between Coben, Brocklehurst and Quay Street.

Coben and Brocklehurst have a long line of collaborations, having previously teamed up on the Netflix series Stay Close, The Stranger, Safe and The Five.

Meanwhile, Amazon had previously aired the thriller series Shelter, based on Coben’s novel of the same name.

“Lazarus is a psychological thriller with an emotional component,” said Brocklehurst.

‘It’s about parents and children, love and loss. We’ve tried to bring our signature wit and warmth, as well as numerous twists. “This is the first collaboration the Quay Street team, Harlan and I have done with Amazon and we are delighted to be partnering with them.”

Nicola Shindler and Richard Fee will executive produce via Quay Street Productions, which is part of ITV Studios.

Wayne Che Yip will executive produce and direct the first two episodes, while Matt Strevens will also produce.

Quay Street Productions and Amazon MGM Studios produce in association with Coben’s Final Twist Productions.
