The police said the arrests could continue but Johann Baumschlager, a spokesman for the security service, refused to confirm or deny that more people were involved in this horrific crime.
Austrian police are currently investigating a woman suspected of putting her 12-year-old son in a small cage for dogs, after the court charged her with murder and torture.
The authorities said the 32-year-old woman is accused of placing her son in a freezer where the temperature does not exceed zero degrees, and of starving him.
Another woman in the same file was also investigated.
It is not known why the police did not disclose the case before today, although it dates back to 2022, but it is likely that the news was kept secret for reasons related to the progress of the investigation.
What exactly happened?
In November 2022, the police arrested the woman and detained her in a prison in the town of Krems (northwest of Vienna). A social worker had filed a report against her the week before her arrest.
The child was found in a coma and hypothermia on November 22 of last year, after a report was submitted to the authorities by his father, who does not live with the family.
The boy was taken to hospital and his mother was arrested the next day.
Today, Wednesday, the police said that the boy’s health condition has improved, and that he is currently living with his father, noting that a second 40-year-old woman suspected of involvement in this case has been arrested.
This woman was arrested on March 3, 2023 in the same area.
Police said the arrests could continue but Johann Baumschlager, a spokesman for the security service, refused to confirm or deny that more people were involved in the horrific case.
The Austrian newspaper “Curier” said on Wednesday that investigators suspect that the mother and the second woman had practiced what looked like “sadistic cult” rituals.
