The five-day search for a hiker missing in a mountain range has ended with the discovery of his body.
The 20-year-old was last seen about to climb Mount Beerwah in the Glass House Mountains on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast on Sunday.
The disappearance of the Mountain Creek man prompted an extensive search through dense bush, including the use of drones and helicopters.
The young man’s body was discovered on the northwest face of the mountain on Thursday afternoon. ABC News reported.
Queensland Police are now working with other emergency service personnel to recover the body.
Hiker is understood as climbing steep terrain.

The extensive search included rescuers on foot (pictured) as well as drones and helicopters.
“Police are treating this man’s death as a simple misadventure,” said Senior Sergeant Michael Froggatt.
“We think he slipped and fell over the side of the cliff.”
At the moment it is unknown how long the man had been dead.
“It was about three-quarters of the way up the mountain, towards the top of Mount Beerwah,” Senior Sergeant Froggatt said.
‘But knowing the distance it has fallen to where it landed, we can’t tell.
“Once the coroner begins his investigation, we will be able to recover those details.”
The 20-year-old’s death is not considered suspicious.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
The man’s body was found in dense bush in the Glass House Mountains.
Hiking trails on the mountain reopened to the public Thursday afternoon.
They had been closed for almost a fortnight due to the recent wet weather.
The death of the 20-year-old Sunshine Coast man is the second in Mount Beerwah in two years.
A 28-year-old hiker from Currimundi fell on the east side of the mountain in March 2023.
