Ryan Reynolds reveals he had to tell a Wrexham star to put a shirt on around his wife Blake Lively

Date:

Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds has revealed he had to repeatedly tell one of the club’s stars to put a shirt around his wife Blake Lively.

The Welsh club are still clinging to being crowned National League champions last month, with Reynolds and co-owner Rob McElhenney giving the team an all-expenses-paid trip to Las Vegas.

Hollywood stars have been heavily involved with the team, with the duo making locker room trips on visits as part of the promotional campaign.

Reynolds told the Fearless in Devotion Podcast that when he entered the locker room with his actress wife Blake Lively, a player was repeatedly found topless.

The Deadpool star joked that he had to order Ollie Palmer to put on a shirt when talking to Lively.

Reynolds and McElhenney were asked which club stars enjoyed the limelight the most.

Reynolds immediately replied “Ollie Palmer”, McElhenney adding “That’s not even close”.

“Every time we come as a family, we come for a walk in the locker room,” Reynolds said.

“Ollie is always the first out, completely shirtless, to have a chat with my wife.

“I’m like Ollie putting on a fucking shirt and coming back and talking to him like a gentleman.”

Palmer, who was signed for a record £300,000 in January 2022, has also started a clothing brand and helped Wrexham achieve League Two status.

The Wxm clothing line, which includes a range of hoodies, t-shirts, sweaters and hats, has been branded around the club and the Welsh town.

Wrexham announced in November that a share of all profits made from sales in the club shop would be used to support the Wrexham Community Trust.

Members of the Wrexham squad were seen sporting Wxm branded hoodies as they traveled to Las Vegas for the promotion celebrations.

“Ollie is one of the best guys I know,” Reynolds added.

“He’s also one of the funniest guys I know. And I’m thrilled for him and his brand of clothing. It’s nice to see that take off.

Palmer said he wanted to give back to the community when he launched the streetwear brand with his business partner last year.

“WXM Clothing is a brand affiliated with the town of Wrexham, North Wales, and historically The Football Club, which is why we have decided to release the Wxm 1864 range,” said Palmer.

“We have created a streetwear brand, something that relates to the people of Wrexham and North Wales.

“Giving back to the community when you can is important, but giving back to the community that has given me so much is really important.

Palmer married his childhood sweetheart Caitlin last year, with the striker pledging to sing at their wedding if he had succeeded in his goal of becoming a professional footballer.

He instead surprised Caitlin by having learned to play the piano before their wedding day, with the forward performing at the reception after the ceremony.

Palmer had finished the season as Wrexham’s second-highest goalscorer, with the 31-year-old notching 16 goals in his promotion campaign.

Wrexham won the National League with a record 111 points after a hard-fought title race with Notts County, who were promoted via the play-offs.

In August last year, Reynolds revealed that Lively wasn’t particularly happy when he told her he had bought the team with actor McElhenney from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

Lively has since shown her support for Reynolds and the Wrexham team by attending several games and, in March, attended the club’s game against York City.

In May 2022, the couple watched Wrexham take on Bromley in the FA Trophy final at Wembley.

Reynolds and Lively were noticeably absent from the Met Gala, with the actress trending on Twitter after her previous looks at the event were praised.

Reynolds had told Access Hollywood that they were missing the Met Gala to deal with Wrexham.

“I think we’re leaving for… we’ll be in the UK. We have to take care of Wrexham business,” he said.

Reynolds and Lively joined Wrexham’s open-top bus parade earlier this month, a day after missing the Met Gala.

Lively, who welcomed her fourth child with Reynolds in February, was spotted in New York on the set of It Ends With Us on Tuesday.

The film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s best-selling 2016 romance novel marks Lively’s first film role in three years.
