Ryan Reynolds and Amy Smart reunite for a festive commercial.
The Just friends stars filmed an ad for Reynolds’ Aviation Gin in a green screen room designed to look like a house decorated for Christmas.
The two-minute spot sees the actors seemingly reprising their roles as Chris Brander and Jamie Palamino from the 2005 rom-com about a man who leaves the friend zone ten years after professing his love for his best friend.
“Oh, hey, honey, I was just looking at the tree. There’s nothing like the smell of real pine,” Reynolds tells his onscreen wife at the beginning of the commercial. “Oh, I love our pine tree,” she replies. “How was work?” he asks her. “Mm, I’ve had better days. There was no more Aviation American Gin in the bar,” she says, holding a bottle of Reynolds’ gin in her hands. “Oh no, that’s so bad. That’s horrible. They ran out of Aviation American Gin,” said the Deadpool actor responds before Smart asks to cut.
When she tells him the situation is weird, he explains that the green screen room will look like their house in post-production, complete with decorations and their Christmas tree. They pick it up again after she gets home from work and Reynolds reacts much more dramatically, shouting “fuck” when she tells him he’s out of gin.
“That was a big reaction,” Smart says The Adam Project actor replies, “Well, it’s been 18 years. I think the characters have changed a little bit, so I’m kind of playing it in my head.
The Star girl The actress then points out how she would have gotten a bottle of gin from work when her bar ran out, and Reynolds explains that she picked up one of their “many respected retail partners” on the way home.
“So this is a stupid ad for your gin company,” she asks him. In true Reynolds fashion, he sarcastically replies, “Let’s not rush to judgment before all the facts are known. I mean, this is a self-financed sequel based on a loose interpretation of IP law.”
