Ryan Moore takes the first round ahead of Memorial Tournament for Jordan Spieth while Tiger Woods shoots two-under-par on five shots
Tiger Woods shot a respectable two-sub-par 70 in the first round of the Memorial tournament, as fellow American Ryan Moore plundered the soft Muirfield Village course in Dublin, Ohio on Thursday.
Moore birdied five of the first seven holes to set a cracking pace, placing a seven-under-forty-five-in-a-row recovering Jordan Spieth with one blow with half the field back in the clubhouse .
But most eyes were on Woods in his first league round since he missed the cut in the PGA Championship two weeks ago.
Ryan Moore leads the attack in Ohio and shot a brilliant opening round of 65
Tiger Woods has put on a solid show in Ohio and has had five shots
The 43-year-old needs another win to match Sam Snead's 82 wins on the PGA Tour, but perhaps more importantly, the Memorial Woods offers the chance to judge his form to the American Open in Pebble Beach in two weeks .
After winning the Masters in April, Woods needs three other major titles to match the record of 18 held by Jack Nicklaus, this week's tournament guest.
& # 39; One of those days (true) could have been turned around easily, I feel like I could have gotten more out of it, & # 39; said Woods about his score.
& # 39; It is so soft that it becomes certain & # 39; gettable & # 39; and look at the scores, the boys do it. & # 39;
Moore set the tone early with five birdies in his opening seven holes of the day
Leader Moore said that a par in the first hole had set a positive tone that prompted him to run five little birds off the ground quickly.
& # 39; Not a good tee shot hit the first hole and took something out of the green, snapped to five to six feet and rolled it in, & # 39; said the five-time PGA Tour winner.
& # 39; It was nice to start that way. Those are the putts that I have done less well lately. Momentum went from there.
& # 39; I hit great mid-irons today. It was a pretty solid golf game, but it mainly made use of capitalizing and making the ones I should make. & # 39;
Spieth was in charge until he invaded his penultimate gap, but it was nevertheless a promising achievement on the back of his recent revival after a slow start to the year.
The three times big winner finished two thirds in the PGA championship at Bethpage two weeks ago and last week he finished eighth at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth.
Jordan Spieth is one of the speeds and his revival at the start of the season is approaching
