Judas and Black Messiah producer Ryan Coogler declined the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ invitation to join in 2016, and he’s still not interested.

‘I don’t believe in this versus that, or’ This movie wasn’t good enough to make this list, ‘the 34-year-old filmmaker said in the Wednesday edition of THR Magazine

‘I like movies … That’s good enough for me. When I join organizations, they become unions, where we figure out how to take care of each other’s families and health insurance. But I know these things bring exposure. ‘

Coogler kicks off his six-month Black Panther II shoot in Atlanta this July alongside Lupita Nyong’o, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke and Angela Bassett – according to THR

The Oakland resident said it’s “ hard ” to make the 2022 sequel without Chadwick Boseman, who died at the age of 43 on August 28 after a secret four-year battle with stage III colon cancer.

‘You have to keep going when you lose loved ones. I know Chad wouldn’t have wanted us to stop. He was someone who was that about the collective, ”Ryan said.

‘Black Panther, that was his movie. He was hired to play that role before anyone else was even thought of, before I was hired, before any of the actresses were hired. On that set he was completely for everyone. Although he was going through what he was going through, he checked them to make sure they were okay.

When we cut his cover, he would hang around and read lines outside the camera [to help other actors with their performances]So it would be harder for me to quit. Fair. I would feel him yelling at me, like, “What are you doing?” So you keep going. ”
