- Nearly 2,000 students forced to go to classrooms
A school was placed on lockdown for an hour on Thursday following a “serious incident” in north Queensland.
Students at Ryan Catholic College were forced to remain in the classroom as the incident unfolded on Canterbury Road in Kirwan, Townsville, at around 12pm.
The school has 1,800 children enrolled from kindergarten to year 12.
The incident occurred after two suspicious people were spotted nearby.
“A serious incident occurred which forced the school to close,” the school administration said.
‘The staff acted quickly and calmly, and all students are safe.
‘Police are on site to resolve the issue and further communications will be sent once the lockdown is lifted.’
The teachers lifted the lockdown an hour later.
