Ruth Langsford will break her silence on her split from husband Eamonn Holmes when she returns to Loose Women next week.

The presenter, 64, has taken an extended break from the ITV show following the end of her marriage to Eamonn, but feels she “owes” viewers an explanation as she rejoins the panel.

The couple were announced to be parting ways in May after a 27-year relationship and 14-year marriage, and so far, Ruth has refrained from speaking about their split.

But she plans to address the news personally on air, surrounded by her close friends and co-stars, and then hopes to move on, with no further plans to do an in-depth interview.

A source has revealed that while it will be incredibly emotional for Ruth, she is a professional and knows she cannot return to television without addressing why she has been absent since April.

A TV source told MailOnline: ‘The Loose Women presenters have a history of speaking openly about their marriage break-ups on air and it’s a very supportive environment.

‘Ruth knows viewers are very interested in her break-up, so she will address her and Eamonn for the first time on the show.

‘The audience has been there through the ups and downs of their relationship, she has always been very open and honest and next week will be no different… she owes it to the viewers to say something.

‘She will be surrounded by the people closest to her on the show and then she will call it a day… she has no plans to do a big interview, this will be the only time she speaks.’

This comes after Eamonn, 64, shared a post on Instagram on Monday night saying it’s “hard to stand up but my next goal is to walk” amid his ongoing health issues.

Last month she attended the TRIC Awards, using a walking frame as she accepted the award for Best Breakfast Show for her morning slot on GB News.

The broadcaster has suffered from chronic back pain for years, but his condition worsened after a failed operation and he now struggles to walk unaided.

Eamonn is reportedly being comforted amid his split from Ruth by divorced mother-of-three Katie Alexander, 42, who is 22 years his junior.

In May it was announced that the couple were going their separate ways after 27 years of dating and 14 years of marriage and, so far, Ruth has refrained from speaking about their split (pictured in 2007).

He has been spending time with the counselor in recent weeks and she is said to be hoping their closeness can develop into a long-term relationship.

A source told The Mirror: “Katie is helping Eamonn through some tough times but doesn’t want to be seen as a marriage wrecker. The friendship has grown over the past few months but Eamonn’s marriage ended some time ago.”

Ruth shares son Jack, 22, with Eamonn, while he has three children – Declan, 35, Rebecca, 32, and Niall, 30 – from a previous marriage.

She first appeared on Loose Women 24 years ago, but has not been on the show as a presenter since April.
