Ruth Langsford told Eamonn Holmes she “wouldn’t want to be friends” after getting divorced, just days after the couple announced their shock split.
The couple, both 64, separated after 14 years of marriage and 27 years together, publicly declaring they were divorcing after work commitments “took their marriage in different directions,” on Saturday.
Even though the couple promised to “remain friends and keep things friendly,” Ruth had a completely different view a couple of years ago and, in fact, said the opposite.
In a resurfaced clip from 2018, when the duo co-hosted This Morning, Ruth and Eamonn discussed their conflicting views on staying friends with an ex.
But not knowing that almost six years later they would be in that exact situation, Ruth revealed at the time that she would “never” want to be friends with an ex.

Eamonn said: “It’s easier to stay friends.”
Ruth said: ‘Why would you need to remain friends? You’re not with them anymore, you don’t need to be friends.’
“My thing is that they weren’t just friends, they were married or in a relationship.”
MailOnline revealed on Monday that Ruth ‘orchestrated’ her split from Eamonn, who is devastated and refused to sign the joint statement announcing the end of their nearly 30-year relationship.
The statement citing that her work commitments were taking their marriage “in different directions” was in fact arranged by Ruth, and Eamonn refused to participate in its publication.
Sources told Mail+ that Eamonn is devastated by the split and that the split has been “largely orchestrated by Ruth”.
Eamonn reportedly told friends that he “didn’t want to get involved” and that “Ruth can do whatever she wants but keep me out of it.”
While millions of people digest the sad news about her divorce plans, Ruth spent her holiday weekend with her loved ones.

The couple have been living together until recently at their £3.2million home in Weybridge, Surrey. Ruth took the dog for a walk yesterday in the rain and spent time with her mother Joan.
She said on Instagram: “Enjoying the little bit of sunshine we have today.”
Meanwhile, Eamonn shared his own weekend post on Instagram as he enjoyed Manchester United’s shock FA Cup final victory over Manchester City, sharing an illustration of himself with Sir Alex Ferguson.
The caption read: ‘My God, what a Cup final, what a result! European football also next season. “The Magic of the Cup. Congratulations to the entire team.”
Eamonn, a trustee of the Manchester United Foundation, saw his post inundated with comments from concerned fans, asking him about his split from Ruth.
The former This Morning hosts revealed they had split on Saturday after work commitments “took their marriage in different directions”.
A representative said: “Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed that their marriage has ended and they are in the process of divorcing.”
The couple married in 2010 after dating for 13 years and say that, despite their split, they are “determined to remain friends.”
Eamonn and Ruth married in 2010, after 13 years together, in a lavish ceremony at the grand 19th century Hampshire hotel, The Elvetham.
They are parents to son Jack, 22, while Eamonn also has sons Declan, 35, Niall, 31, and daughter Rebecca, 33, from his previous marriage.
Insiders claimed on Sunday that the couple have been living separate lives for two years, and that their relationship deteriorated after they left This Morning in 2021.
Eamonn has had a tough two years, losing the ITV show, as well as battling health issues and grieving the death of his mother. The presenter is said to have been keen to move to Belfast, but Ruth insisted they stay at her home in Surrey.
A source said Sun on Sunday night: ‘Eamonn and Ruth’s relationship changed when they left This Morning. They began to take different directions in their careers and their priorities began to change.’
‘Eamonn was desperate to return to Belfast, which he considers home, but Ruth would never move. She became the bone of contention.
‘As his career at ITV continued, Eamonn took another path and they became ships in the night. For the past two years they had led separate lives, professionally and personally.
Eamonn spoke about his desire to return to Belfast last year and revealed his wife was always “very irritated” when he called home.
Last year, when asked where he considered home, he said: ‘Well, it’s not Surrey. When people ask me what I’m doing this weekend, I tell them I’m going home.
—So my wife gets very irritated by this. She says, ‘This is your house.’ And I say, ‘No Ruth, this is where I work.’ This is where I have to be, but at home…’
