Russia has sent 30 prized thoroughbred horses to North Korea just days after the White House alleged that Pyongyang supplied artillery shells for Putin’s war effort.
The prized Orlov Trotters were shipped by freight train and are considered a sign of status and wealth in North Korea.
There are growing concerns that the shipment may have been payment for Kim Jong-un’s support for Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, especially after Russian media revealed plans to supply drugs to the pariah state in the near future.
On Wednesday, the White House revealed that intelligence indicated that North Korea would covertly send arms shipments to bolster Russian supplies.
Our information indicates that the DPRK is covertly supplying the Russian war in Ukraine with a significant number of artillery shells, while obscuring the real destination of the arms deliveries by trying to make it look like they are being sent to countries in the Middle East. or North Africa,” said John Kirby, spokesman for the National Security Council.

Kirby said the grenades “wouldn’t change the course of the war,” but raised sufficient concerns that it would be monitored by US officials.
Both Russia and North Korea have denied the allegations.
According to the 38 North project, which follows developments with North Korea, a train entered Russia on Friday afternoon, marking the first time the route has been used since 2020.
The 800-meter-long Tumangang Friendship Bridge is the only land link between the two countries, but was blocked in February 2020 due to mounting concerns about the Covid pandemic.
Russian state media said the 30 thoroughbreds — five stallions and 25 mares — were quarantined in Russia before making the trip to North Korea.
A professor at the Far Eastern Federal University in Vladivostok, Artyom Lukin, told NK News in 2020 that North Korean dignitaries, including Kim Jong-un, preferred Orlov Trotters for their “royal appearance.”

“In 2003, Putin donated Orlov horses to Kim Jong Il as a birthday present,” he said.
“The North Koreans came to love Orlov trotters. I think one of the reasons they went with them was the Orlovs’ beautiful, regal appearance, as well as their good humour.’

The British Ministry of Defense said Russia will deploy so-called “blocking units” that “threaten to shoot their own retreating soldiers to force offensives”.
“Due to low morale and unwillingness to fight, Russian forces have likely started deploying ‘barrier troops’ or ‘blocking units,'” the defense ministry said in an intelligence update on Friday.
Lately, Russian generals probably wanted their commanders to use weapons against deserters, which may include permission to fire to kill such defaulters after a warning was given. Generals probably also wanted to keep defensive positions to the death.’
