Rupert Murdoch, Jerry Hall divorce: Today hosts Allison Langdon and Karl Stefanovic react to split
Today’s hosts Allison Langdon and Karl Stefanovic burst into laughter on Thursday as they joked that it’s time for Rupert Murdoch to ‘put his cue back on the rack’.
The Australian-born media mogul, 91, is reportedly divorcing his fourth wife, American model and actress Jerry Hall, 65, sources told the New York Times†
Discussing the split live on the broadcast, Langdon and Stefanovic laughed at the idea of someone ending their marriage at such an advanced age.
After LA-based entertainment reporter Sam Rubin of the Today show summed up the NYT report, Langdon said, “I don’t know, Sam.
“If these guys can’t make it work, what chance is there for the rest of us, I say!”
She chuckled and later asked Rubin if a potential fifth marriage was at stake for the non-eternal News Corp. executive chairman.

Rubin replied that Murdoch is “livelier” than most men his age, causing Langdon to giggle back in the studio.
At that moment Stefanovic interrupted: “What Ally is trying to say is that Rupert should put his cue back on the rack!”
He then changed direction and suggested that Murdoch remarry because he ‘loves life…he’s still a handsome man’ [and] Empire.’
But it was Rubin’s comment that Murdoch would have “many willing partners” willing to marry him that made the hosts leave.
Stefanovic burst out laughing and said, “No doubt!”
Murdoch and Jerry Hall are getting a divorce, according to The New York Times, citing two people familiar with the case.
Murdoch married Hall in March 2016 in a quiet ceremony in central London.
The Fox Corp chairman and his former supermodel wife were frequent tabloid fodder, chronicling their Spencer House wedding and the elder Murdoch’s 90th birthday celebrations at New York City’s Tavern on the Green last year.
Murdoch’s divorce, his fourth, is unlikely to change the ownership structure of companies in which he has interests, including Fox Corp, the parent company of the Fox News Channel, and News Corp publisher of the Wall Street Journal.
Murdoch, 91, controls News Corp. and Fox Corp. through a family trust in Reno, Nevada, which owns about 40 percent of each company’s stock.

Bryce Tom, a spokesperson for Murdoch, declined to comment.
A representative for Hall, who is 65, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The Melbourne-born billionaire, whose net worth is estimated by Forbes at $17.7 billion ($A25.6 billion), has built a sprawling media empire with assets around the world.
He sold the Fox film and television studios and other entertainment assets to Walt Disney Co in a $71.3 billion deal closed in March 2019.
Murdoch was previously married to entrepreneur Wendi Deng, whom he divorced in 2014 after 14 years of marriage.
They have two daughters.
He divorced his second wife, Anna Murdoch Mann, a Scottish journalist with whom he had three children, in 1999.
He and his first wife, Patricia Booker, a former flight attendant with whom he had a daughter, divorced in 1966.
