Pond life! Runaway driver is caught hiding in a pool with reeds for cover after leading police on a 80 mph chase through built-up areas
- Orges Hoxha, 24, did not stop before the police who tried to apprehend him last month
- He has since been jailed for 10 months and banned from driving for two years
A runaway driver, who led police on a terrifying high-speed chase last month, was caught hiding in a pond with reeds for cover.
Dashcam footage shows the moment soaking wet Orges Hoxha was pulled from a pond after erratically driving away from police who tried to apprehend him.
The 24-year-old failed to stop for officers in Mansfield Woodhouse, Nottinghamshire, shortly before 8.30pm on February 27 this year.
He punched the accelerator and reached speeds in excess of 80 mph as he desperately tried to get away in the 30 mph speed zone.
Hoxha is shown driving the Toyota Yaris on the wrong side of the road, overtaking other cars before eventually swerving into The Carrs nature reserve in Warsop, narrowly avoiding trees.

When he stopped here, he is said to have jumped out of his car before fleeing on foot.
An officer and a police dog followed Hoxha to a pond, where he was soon pulled out of the water.
Hoxha from Warsop admitted to driving dangerously, failing to stop, driving without insurance and driving without a licence.

Hoxha was sentenced to 10 months in prison and a two-year driving ban on Wednesday
He was sentenced to 10 months in prison and a two-year driving ban by Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
PC Jon Pinnick, from Nottinghamshire Police’s Roads Policing Unit, said: ‘We know all too well the tragic consequences of this type of dangerous and reckless driving.
Hoxha showed absolutely no regard for the traffic rules or the danger of endangering other people by driving almost three times the speed limit.
“Instead of facing what he had done, he chose to run and hide.
‘As shelters go this was certainly a brave choice, but it made little difference to our dog, who soon sniffed it out from under the reeds.

“I am incredibly grateful that no one was injured in this incident, as the consequences are unimaginable.
“I want to send a strong signal to every other driver who thinks they can escape arrest by completely ignoring the traffic rules.
“As we’ve shown here, we can call on other teams within the force, including the canine unit, so you don’t stay hidden for long.”
